Lilith Icelandic Roving
Lilith Icelandic Roving
4 oz balls of Pale Gray Icelandic Roving
Lillith is Brida’s sister. She is shy and reserved and does not like people so much. She is white with black I usually skirt her dark grey collar off the fleece, before sending it to the mill. she has some grey spots in her fleece that turn it to a soft silver. Icelandic sheep have 2 kinds of wool, the Tog and the Thel. One is long and coarse and helps shed the rain and snow, and one is soft and downy, to insulate. I have not separated them. Her fleece has a beautiful shimmer and silky handle to it. Lillith gave us triplets this year, and we have kept back her ewe lamb, Sigrun.
We shear after lambing and before the weather gets too warm. The fleeces are skirted then sent to Illinois Wool and Fiber Mill for a gentle scouring and then carding into this fluffy roving. It is ready for spinning, felting or other crafting projects. This wool takes dyes wonderfully. You will notice bits of hay occasionally in our roving. Our sheep live outside, and we do not put coats on them. We process minimally to keep the most natural feel to the wool. It comes out easily when spinning, we hope it will remind you of the beautiful pastures and forages they enjoy.
